Book Launch: Aline Motta

10.04.25
05 Water is a time machine performance SP Biennial Fundacao Bienal Levi Fanan

Welcome to a book launch and conversation with Aline Motta, Marianne Zamecznik, and Yaniya Mikhalina, Thursday 10 April 18–19 at Oslo Kunstforening.

In collaboration with Trondheim Kunstmuseum and the publishing house Torpedo, we invite you to the launch of Water is a Time Machine by Brazilian artist Aline Motta. Through this project, which includes a video and a performance, Motta explores water’s role as a carrier of memory, history, and identity. Drawing from her own cultural heritage, she weaves together fragments of archival material with the stories of her foremothers, intertwining personal loss with the history of slavery and its lasting traces in contemporary Brazil.

Aline Motta (b. 1974, Niterói) is one of the participating artists in the exhibition Passing Motherhood at Trondheim Kunstmuseum, curated by Marianne Zamecznik and Yaniya Mikhalina. The exhibition is part of the Hanna Ryggen Triennial 2025, and in connection with the book launch, she will present her artistic practice in Oslo for the first time. The publication is released by Torpedo and will be available for purchase at a special launch price during the event.

Join us for an evening of conversation, insight, and inspiration.
