Artist talk with Hans Ragnar Mathisen in conversation with Maria Fuglevaag Warsinska-Varsi.

After the event, the audience is welcome to walk around the exhibition The Cartographer, which shows works by Hans Ragnar Mathisen.

The Sami-Norwegian multi-artist Keviselie or Hans Ragnar Mathisen (Elle-Hánsa), was born in Narvik in 1945, and grew up in Sálasvággi (Tromsdalen), with roots in Deanodat (Vestertana) in Finnmark. He currently lives in Romsa (Tromsø). 

Mathisen has his education from the Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole, Oslo (1971-73) and the Statens Kunstakademi, Oslo (1973-79). Mathisen was a member of the legendary Mázejoavku: Sámi Dáiddajoavku (Sami artist group) from 1978 to 1983 in Máze (Masi). 

Mathisen has a versatile artistic practice to look back on and has worked with painting, graphics, drawing, maps, illustration and in addition worked, among other things as an author and festival organizer.

Maria Fuglevaag Warsinska-Varsi is a trained film director with a master's degree / Master from the Polish Film Academy. She has directed and produced 15 international award-winning documentaries and fiction films.

Warsinska-Varsi is the copyright holder of the art collection by Ryszard Warsinski.

She is currently employed as a coordinator and communicator at Samisk Hus in Oslo.
