Closed for Summer

On August 21, we open the autumn season with a solo exhibition by Marius Engh titled The Sign of Four.
The exhibition explores the relationship between sculpture and landscape, taking as its starting point the pedestal and the origin of the portrait bust in the so-called herm. A herm is an abstract sculptural form based on the god Hermes from ancient Greece. Originally, a herm functioned both as an altar and as a marker in the landscape – a bridge between the private and the public – in the form of boundary stones, milestones, and markers of crossroads, marketplaces, and sacred sites. Engh draws a connection between ancient deity worship and the monumental, examining how abstract sculpture is tied to the pedestal’s role as both support and symbol.
We wish everyone a wonderful summer – and look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition opening on August 21!
