Oslo Kunstforening was founded in 1836 on a simple idea: that people can come together around art because art itself is worth protecting, promoting, and giving a place in society. That idea still underpins our work 190 years later.

Being a member is therefore more than supporting an exhibition program. It means taking part in a community that believes art has a value that doesn't need to be justified through utility, return, or immediate results. Art should be able to exist, develop, challenge, and be preserved for others beyond ourselves.

Through your membership, you help ensure that artists can create and exhibit new work, that art can reach a public audience, and that Oslo Kunstforening can remain an independent institution driven by people who believe art's place in society is worth upholding.
