Oslo Kunstforening is pleased to announce that Anna Daniell's sculpture Frøken Munch (2024) has been acquired for The City of Oslo Art Collection, and that the sculpture Folk som elsker kunst (2024) has been purchased by Ferd. Both works were part of the exhibition FOLK SOM ELSKER KUNST, which was on view at Oslo Kunstforening from May 31 to July 7.
“Anna Daniell is well represented in The City of Oslo Art Collection, with two works at Olav Ryes plass: Fjell, Fjelland Sekk (2013) and a site-specific installation in Oslo City Hall: 15 sider av Oslo (2021). Daniell is interested in the encounter of the works with the audience and how (Oslo's) 'art ecosystem' arranges these meetings. This is especially interesting for us because it gives us a perspective on the kind of reality we operate in – and what we subject artists (and the public) to when we incorporate their works into our collection of art in and for public spaces.
Frøken Munch is an intriguing work in this context for several reasons: it has clear art historical references, debates materiality and the hierarchy of materials, as well as the dominant power and long shadows of large institutions. We hope to give Frøken Munch a life within Oslo Municipality's art collection, where the sculpture will be placed in environments that are or have been significant for the presentation of art to the public in Oslo, for example at the Old Munch Museum.”

“Ferd has purchased the sculpture Folk som elsker kunst by Anna Daniell, which was exhibited at Oslo Kunstforening before the summer. It will join Daniell's sculpture Dyttet i ryggen, sparket i magen, which was acquired from Galleri Brandstrup earlier this year. We find Anna Daniell's playful and human expressions to be very inviting and engaging, regardless of background or art-related references. The encounter with humor, lush materiality, and the title Folk som elsker kunst triggers our own experiences, associations, and questions. This makes the sculpture easy to place throughout Ferd’s properties. Currently, it is placed at Ferd’s headquarters at Dronning Maudsgate 10, to much delight and amazement from the visitors. And if we understand Anna Daniell correctly, the reactions and thoughts sparked in the viewer will become part of the sculpture itself. Ferd will take over Marienlyst in 2028, and Folk som elsker kunst will be on display at Marienlyst as part of the Ferd Art Programme.”
