In her sound art and performance practice, Danish artist Tanja Schlander often casts herself as her heroine, the character of Pippi Longstocking from Astrid Lindgren’s famous children’s books. She also applies ideas from zone therapy, astrology and the Tarot in her work. This special sequence of three performances is held in conjunction with Rona Yefman’s exhibition The Strongest Girl in the World and produced in collaboration with Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival.
First, she will conduct a psychic Tarot reading using a specially made Tarot pack. Cards featuring scenes from the Pippi books will be used in Schlander’s readings for individual audience members. Afterwards, Schlander will present an improvisational free jazz blowout featuring herself on vocals and a band dressed as characters from Lindgren’s fiction. In her third performance piece, The Vaginal Phonogram, Schlander inserts a microphone into intimate parts of her body to generate an internal sound portrait.
The event is free of charge and open for all.
