Supersaturations
Susanne Kathlen Mader, Supersaturations, 2015
In Susanne Kathlen Maders wall installations large geometric forms meet subtle lines and sculptural three-dimensional objects. The composition unfolds as a dissolved score, where extremes as balance and imbalance, heaviness and lightness, harmony and atonality play important roles. The works evoke associations to the Russian Suprematists Kazimir Malevich, the constructivist Wassily Kandinsky and the Bauhaus school.
In Maders non-figurative paintings color is the main actor. Mader presses the colors against a high saturation, approaching what is known in chemistry as saturation or supersaturation. It is an unstable condition where saturation surpasses its own balance point, like a coiled spring with the ability to spontaneously bounce back.
A conversation between Thomas Sæverud and Susanne Kathlen Mader will be held Thusday, June 11 at 4.30 pm.
