Bjørn O.K. Langeland works within an abstract expressionist tradition. Most viewers may associate his paintings with landscapes and naturemoods, but it is the painterly qualities that interest him the most. His works convey a fresh and vital impression, emphasizing immediacy and rhythm in the painting process. Above all, it is the joy of painting itself that drives Langeland’s work.
Bjørn O.K. Langeland was born in Oslo in 1943 and was educated at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo (1989–90 and 1965–68), Camberwell School of Art in London (1972–73), and the National College of Art and Design (Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole) in 1970 and 1960–64. He has held numerous solo exhibitions, including at Galleri Skien Kunstforening and Bærum Kunstforening in 1997, LNM (The Association of Norwegian Painters), Oslo in 1996 and 1991, Namsos Kunstforening in 1984, UKS (Young Artists’ Society), Oslo in 1976, Sarpsborg Kunstforening in 1975, and The British Council Student Centre, London in 1973. Langeland has also participated in numerous group and collective exhibitions and is represented in several collections, including Norske Skog (1996), Namsos Kunstforening (1984), and Sarpsborg Kunstforening (1975). At the exhibition in Oslo Kunstforening, he is presenting new paintings, mainly from the period 1996–1999.
