Rådmannsgården Intermezzo

Oslo Kunstforening is pleased to welcome you to Rådmannsgården Intermezzo – an exhibition project in the form of eight acts spread over eight days.

Through staging of archival material, and a series of performative interventions, the project explores a multifaceted narrative of Rådmannsgården, the 17th-century building where Oslo Kunstforening is located.

Rådmannsgården Intermezzo is an exhibition project structured as eight acts over eight days. The project examines both the building’s and the institution’s history from various perspectives. By mapping archival materials and documentation, specific events, materials, and stories are highlighted, with a contemporary lens.

Artists Vilhelm Christensen, Stacey de Voe, and Emil Sandström approach questions of history, archives, and institutional frameworks in different ways. They have invited musicians, historians, artists, writers, and theorists to engage in dialogue and reflect on the site’s diverse history.

Sculptural installations create a mobile scenography that serves as the backdrop for the various activities and historical spaces. Concerts, performances, readings, lectures, film screenings, and architectural interventions will fill the ground floor of the building. The rooms bear traces of different eras of use, with faded wallpapers, worn wooden floors, overpainted frescoes, and a unique plaster ceiling depicting virtues and exotic animals.
